Who am I and what exactly do I offer? – A behind-the-scenes look at Healthy Horsie equine nutrition advice

Updated: Jun 17

Actually, I'm just crazy about horses—or am I?

Since I was about six years old, I’ve been fascinated by horses, despite coming from a family with absolutely no connection to them. My parents never imagined that their daughter would become so passionate about these animals!

From a young age, I was intrigued not just by horses and animals but also by how nature and its systems work. This curiosity, combined with my love for animals, led me to study biology at ETH Zurich, where I completed my bachelor's and master's degrees with a focus on microbiology and immunology. I have always been committed to grounding my observations in science and critically analyzing complex relationships.

Professionally, I’ve gained diverse experience in the pharmaceutical industry—from drug production to clinical research. Over the past year, I’ve conducted training and workshops for clinical personnel, discovering my passion for sharing knowledge. My love for horses has always been a driving force, so I decided to build a second career in equine nutrition—one of my long-standing interests.

Last year, I took on an additional academic journey to deepen my expertise in equine feeding science. Although I successfully completed my studies, I will continue expanding my knowledge, attending international conferences, and staying up to date with the latest research.

Equine Nutrition and Me

As the owner of a food-loving Freiberger gelding, which is a light-feed breed, I have always been deeply engaged in managing feeding and training. Over time, I realized that modern horse care presents many challenges—particularly the imbalance between excessive feed and insufficient movement, which can lead to obesity and long-term health issues. In the beginning, I struggled to understand the intricate connections between feeding and management. Thanks to my studies, I came to see how closely they intertwine and how a lack of knowledge often contributes to preventable health problems in our equine population.

Through numerous conversations with stable owners, riding colleagues, and horse owners, I have found that uncertainty or partial knowledge about equine nutrition is common. Since veterinarians and therapists often lack specialization in feeding, individualized nutrition plans are rare. Sometimes, diet isn't even discussed when addressing other diagnoses or lifestyle changes in a horse’s life. Many horse owners feel left to navigate their questions alone, with limited access to professional guidance.

My Mission with Healthy Horsie Equine Nutrition Consulting

My goal in the coming years is to support numerous horses and their owners in optimizing feeding strategies tailored to each horse’s unique needs. Beyond simply offering recommendations, I want owners to truly understand why certain feeding approaches are beneficial—along with their advantages and drawbacks. My mission is to provide horse owners with well-founded knowledge and serve as a reliable resource for questions and personalized consultations.

I have extensively studied various feed options, offering independent, unpaid recommendations purely based on what best suits your horse and its needs. But I also consider your needs and budget, ensuring that effective feed choices are accessible—whether online or at a local feed supplier. As a horse owner myself, I understand the costs involved, so I meticulously calculate feeding expenses and provide insights on alternative feed options and tailored rations.

Why Is Everything Online?

My consulting services are exclusively online—and I see no downsides! One clear advantage is that online consultations are more affordable than in-person visits since I don’t need to travel to different clients, saving both time and costs. Additionally, this format allows for greater flexibility, meaning horse owners don’t have to rearrange their schedules to accommodate an on-site visit.

Every consultation includes follow-up support, giving you the chance to review your report at your own pace and ask questions for up to four weeks afterward. If needed, I am happy to schedule a video call to go over the results in detail and address any concerns. This approach offers clients ample time to reflect on the recommendations and fosters flexibility for both sides.

I see no disadvantages, as my analyses are based on a highly detailed questionnaire, which must be completed and submitted beforehand. This setup is beneficial because owners can take their time filling it out and truly consider their horse’s condition. You know your horse best, so you are the most qualified to provide insights about its well-being. By sending me photos, I can also visually assess its physical condition and overall health.

In short, I believe this method offers only advantages, and I am confident that you, as a horse owner, will see them too!

Having worked remotely for years in my primary profession, I have experienced firsthand the benefits of online work and how seamlessly everything functions. Today's technology is undoubtedly ready for this shift—but is the equestrian world? That’s for you to decide.

Equine Nutrition Consulting – What Services Do I Offer?

I have carefully designed my services to meet the needs I once had as a horse owner lacking in-depth knowledge. My offerings allow you to choose flexibly how much you want to invest, whether you prefer to start with a smaller consultation or dive into a more comprehensive plan.

The EnergyCheck helps you determine whether your horse is getting enough energy, fiber, and protein from its diet. I analyze how your current feeding plan aligns with your horse’s needs, highlighting differences with or without pasture and identifying whether major surpluses or deficiencies in energy supply require adjustments.

If you want to know whether your horse is receiving the right minerals and supplements and whether they complement the base feed, the MineralCheck is your best choice. In this consultation, I examine minerals and trace elements, providing insights into alternative products that might better suit your horse or whether excessive amounts or deficiencies have crept into its diet.

For a comprehensive approach, I recommend the Full Nutrition Consultation, which includes an analysis of both energy supply and mineral balance. This service also provides alternative feed recommendations and a personalized feeding plan for your horse. If your horse has been diagnosed with a medical condition, I offer guidance on how targeted feeding strategies can support healing and overall well-being.

If you initially book the EnergyCheck or MineralCheck but later decide you need the full consultation, you can upgrade at any time, and I will credit your previous payment in full toward the complete package.

What’s Next? Will We Be in Touch Soon?
